Gemeente (Municipality)
It is important to register with your local Municipality (Gemeente) once you relocate to the Netherlands. You will be provided with a lot of useful information at your Gemeente (municipality). Please note that if you live in a small town/village, the Gemeente might be at just one location. If you live in a big city, there will be different locations so find the one in your area. E.g. Simply Google Gemeente (city) and find the nearest address. Here you will find information on;

  • Education especially Dutch language and Integration workshops.
  • Civil Affairs (Registration of Birth, Marriage, Passports, IDs, Driving License).
  • Move within the city/town (change of address/moving house) or moving into that city/town from a different city/town or country.
  • Registering for a short stay (less than 3 months) or to work; BSN number.
  • Immigration and Registration; First registration for you and your family when you first move to the Netherlands.
  • Information: You will also find important information about i) Family, parenting, and youth programmes, ii) Housing iii) Finding work iv) Parking permit v) Leisure/community activities in your area etc
